To update my post from a few days ago. Got my newly purchased '88 Turbo home (thanks AAA!) and was able to investigate the transmission issue a little more.

In 2nd gear I can get the car moving on level ground but with bad noises from the gearbox. The noise is mostly gone with the clutch depressed in neutral. Once I lift up the clutch (in neutral) there's noise. There's even more noise when I rev the engine (in neutral).

I can get the front wheels turning on jackstands but there's lots of gearbox/clutch noise.

Anyone want to take a stab at what I need? I'm guessing a whole new transmission and clutch. Do I have to get an '88 5 speed or will other years fit as well?
