Another thought, car won't move Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Sun, 2 May 2021 15:34:40 In Reply to: Re: rebuilt transmission, car not moving, shifter alignment issues, Cmyles [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 2 May 2021 15:21:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
One other thing I've see that will cause this problem: If the shift rod (projecting from the rear of the transmission) is forcefully knocked into the unit while it's being handled that can snap the "digit" off of the the forward end of the rod. That digit is what actually engages with each shift fork and causes them to move for selecting gears. With the digit snapped off the mechanism will click into all the positions as normal but none of the forks will ever move so you'll actually be stuck in neutral. I once saw this happen to a freshly rebuilt unit that was dropped on its rear end. Unfortunately the unit must be disassembled about halfway to install a new digit.
