It can be surprisingly bad and completely stealth. Sometimes
showing up only under vacuum.
One tool I learnt about on another forum- search 'vacuum leak smoke test.'
Basically you're using pressurized smoky air to test everything-
if there's a leak, 'the smoke gets out.'
But it sounds like you have a gross failure- disassembly ought to find it.
Checking other basics- fuel pressure especially- is never time wasted, tho.
I spent a long time troubleshooting around a broken distributor rotor, once.
what do you mean, the engine's in backwards?
