Leaking injector in cylinder 1. Checked all vacuum pipes. Nothing to report.
Timing is at 16 degrees.
Plug gap at 0.25".
New coil fitted within resistance specs. (Thanks 2nd owner, for the heads up on the ebay one).
New rotor, plugs, bougi's and cap.
All ignition tests from the Bentley manual are within specs.
As part of trying to diagnose this problem I performed a test on the O2 sensor. It has a normal swing but then every 5-8 swings or so it stays at 0.9 volts then dives to 0.1 volts. The motor misses when this happens.
Next was a cold compression test. (Engine left overnight). Upon removing the plugs, I noticed a gas smell. The piston top in cylinder 1 was wet. Plug smelt of gas, bore smelt of gas. After drying the piston top, (well, wiping a bit with a rag poked in), the rag smelt of gas. No other cylinders showed signs of any wetness/gas ingress.
A year ago the compression numbers were in the high 160's across all cylinders and now they are in the mid 150's. (160, 155, 152, 155 from 1 to 4). The car is barely driven and yet some wear has occurred.
So, I have a leaky injector. This might also help to explain why I have had two turbo failures in the last year from worn bearings and blown seals. (Rebuilt by G-Pop shop. The turbo is now also making some whistling and grinding noises again. The same happened on previous failures). It's clear to me now that the oil has/is being contaminated with a little gasoline.
So, my next question is where to find some injectors? I would like to renew them all, since they are the originals. (They were already serviced/cleaned by Mr Injector, some 4 years ago).
Does anyone have any preferences as to type and who/where to find some?!
Once again, many thanks for reading and any assistance. It's much appreciated.
