I use a regular spanner. I don't think there's any trick I can think of. I probably busted my knuckles the first ten or so times I did it.
On the AC idler bracket there's two bolts. One is the adjuster, and the other is the bolt which it mounts/rotates on. Both need to be lose to get movement.
Likewise for the alternator/WP belt, you need to loosen up the adjuster bolt and also the 15/16(i forget)mm nut that goes through the alternator - that holds the adjuster arm to the alternator.
I don't know for power steering, I don't have power steering in my main 900. I think it follows the same scheme.
