Thank you for your replies!!!
I went to the auto parts store early and bought a quart of Dextron III. I added maybe 8 or 10 oz and that brought it up to level. I started the car and ran the steering lock to lock maybe 10 times. It immediately quieted down and the fluid is no longer full of air. I decided not to try and flush it for now.
I then jacked it up and there was some leaking evident on the back side of the motor/trans, as well as on the rack and the bottom of the pump. I wiped it all down and then restarted, turning lock to lock a couple of times. I didn't see further leaking and I don't know if it was power steering fluid, oil or what it was. My son had the car in for Vermont inspection last week and the guy put it on a lift and commented "your main seal is leaking". So he thought it was engine related.
We'll see how the power steering level goes over the next couple of weeks. If it drops, we'll try the stop leak stuff.
Is there any sources left for a rack if it comes to that? I checked Rock Auto (got one from them for the cursed Audi TT and let me tell you, THAT was a pain to change out...), eeuroparts, and esaab. No stock...
thanks again for the timely responses!
