Zeke, I tried posting in response to this a couple hours ago, but it isn't showing up....It's done that once before to my knowledge, and then both my posts appeared later. So, if this doubles-up, sorry.
You're right about the complexity of compressible flow, and I should have mentioned that, but I wanted to keep it simple. I still think that the example I gave of a garden hose has its applicability, even though it wasn't intended to be a direct analogy.
Anyway, I too would like to know a bit more about the Swedish Dynamics' test procedures....but I have to say that I would guess that the difference in energy loss by changing only the down-pipe is small compared to reducing energy loss through the more restrictive components, like the CAT and muffler(s).
