I am a long-time Saab 9000 owner/fan. I have had four 9000 models of different years; 3 turbo and 1 nonturbo. I have always gotten about 34 mpg highway and 29 city. Keep in mind that the Saab 9000 is not a small or light weight car. Surely over the last 10-12 years other companies would have noticed the high HP and high gas milelage. Shouldn't there be 2.5L 4cyl. turbo charged 300 HP Ford Mustangs that get 30 mpg highway out there by now? With the volume of engines that ford produces, they could make a small efficient monstor motor at a low cost.
I have a Honda helix motorcycle with a 250cc 4 stroke motor that gets 54 mpg highway and a little Toyota tercel (tin can) that gets 35 mph highway which both make the Saab 9000 look unbeleivable when compared. I would think that Honda would be putting out a small 2000lb civic with a 1.5L turbo charged motor that would get 55-60 mpg highway and also tear up the track. I guess my question is why isn't "eco power" speading? Is it the turbo charger cost?
