If there is sludge, what is the chance of the engine being OK if I clean off the screen and pan? I think I know the answer, the car has probably been run between one and two miles at low pressure. I presume damage has been done. Besides, sludge affects bearings around the balance shaft, etc so I'd be looking at other problems, right?
I guess I thought sludge was due to neglect in changing oil. Granted when I switched to synthetic I upped my oil change intervals to 5-7k which seemed well within the intervals discussed by guys getting their oil tested. I was looking to double the oil change interval which made the switch a wash in terms of extra filter and time. Plus I figured it was better for the car.
So assuming everything else is working, oil pressure is caused by the oil pump, not the other components? I was somewhat confused by some indicating the low pressure may be due to connecting rod bearing or something.
