I took my car in for a flex pipe replacement today and was told I needed front and back rotors & pads, a new muffler before the end of the year, and replacement exhaust hangers. There is a new, massive oil leak, perhaps from the front crank seal, to add to the chronic power steering fluid leak from the reservoir hose. I was shown all these things so I know I'm not being taken for a ride.

The car has always been at full boost since I've owned it due to ECU issues. I was told not to put it to full boost two years ago because the transmission has gear whine in 1st and 2nd and hadn't much time left. A clutch rattle implicates a bad input shaft as well.

On the way home the vehicle totally died on the road. The alternator is no longer charging the battery and a new battery had to be put in to take it the five miles back to the shop.

I am a graduate student and have been partially neglectful of the vehicle because I simply have no time as of late, but still love the car. It has 138,000 miles on it.

Do you think the vehicle is worth saving? The repair shop advised me to tackle the brakes and the electrical issue, continually top off the fluids and drive it until it died.
