Door lock / key / controller / switch opinions, please ?? Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Fri, 28 Jun 2019 14:52:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am hoping for some great recommendations from folks here regarding this situation, please ??
Now that I have my '97 Aero in-hand the biggest concern I have is that it came with just a single key which has its non-metallic top of ready to break right off.
(I suspect many 9K owners know, having a lost (or locked inside) key is NOT a trivial matter.)
This needs to be carefully considered and dealt with BEFORE any calamity, IMO.
Adding to this scenario is the sometimey driver's door lock switch - OR, maybe the (post '94 ?) lock controller module which others have posted about here as being 'wimpy'...
And finally there are the key & locking choices at hand:
1 - Buy a couple of newly made keys (Spendy !!);
VS.
2 - Changing ALL the locks with either the set from my '94, or a spare set with several keys.
Considering all of the above, it will obviously be easiest/quickest to spend the $60+ for 2 new keys;
But that will not assuredly make the locking switch or controller work any better.
So I am asking for opinions on the above here, please ??
Lastly, I am hoping that someone will tell me the way to identify & find the lock controller module so that if I need to swap that out I will change the correct part - and also, is it that part or the alarm controller that works with the key fob remote to unlock the doors, please ??
Thanks for any helpful replies !!!
