I went ahead and ordered the Eeuroparts engine mount kit with hydraulic mounts so I'll see how that works out. It wasn't all that much more expensive than going with the solid jobs.
The front mount on the car is completely toast and is going to come out in pieces. The rear bottom mount is harder to get to but I have to figure it's bad given that the front has collapsed. The transmission mount is fairly recent since I replaced that when installing the transmission about 3 years ago. Some time ago I did the RTV trick on the upper dogbone but since the kit comes with new bushings I'll see if I can get those in - I can probably cobble together a tool like the one you describe.
