Cleaning out coolant system Posted by skibumm100 [Email] (#3255) [Profile/Gallery] (more from skibumm100) on Mon, 6 Jun 2022 05:01:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got the head gasket job completed and I'm now faced with cleaning up the remnants of about three quarts of motor oil that was injected into the cooling system. What a slimy, nasty mess. I refilled the engine with oil and water and ran it for a while until it got up to temp. No apparent leaks in the HG. Drained and refilled the water and added a jug of radiator flush/degreaser hoping it would break down the oily slime so I could get it all out. It may have done a decent job inside the block, can't tell, but the reservoir and hoses from the reservoir to the water pump and then to bottom of radiator still keep having baby poo colored slime bubble up to the top. I plan to drain it again tonight and remove the coolant reservoir and try Dawn or some HD concentrated degreaser on it. I'd like to wrap this job up but I don't feel like it's complete until I can get the goo out. What has worked for others? The Victor-Reinz head bolts I bought from eEuro appear to be the crappy grey ones with the washer. The car has 223K on it so I expect that even if they are the crappy ones, they'll probably take this car to the grave. TIA!
