Cold Start Injector: ground vs 12V to push button Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Wed, 13 May 2015 05:35:24 In Reply to: Re: Warm-up regulator for hot start problem, matt jurijew, Tue, 12 May 2015 11:06:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Matt,
You can run 12V from the battery to your switch to the Cold Start Injector as you say, however there are two risks with using 12V from the battery:
1) You need to make sure you have a fuse in the circuit, wiring fires are no fun.
2) Since the Cold Start Injector is needed to start the engine when it is cold, you need for it to remain hooked up to the original wiring (which also supplies 12V from a different source at various times. So, you need to be careful that you don't have 2 different 12V sources on the same circuit or wierd stuff can happen. I am not sure, but I think in that case you might find that your push button causes the starter to crank! Also, if you create a "hard ground" (bypassing the Thermal Time Switch) then the Cold Start Injector will ALWAYS be active which may cause other problems.
For those reasons, I still think it is best to put your switch in a wire that simply adds a ground for the existing circuit only when you push your switch. Very simple and avoids all those other problems. See my other post above on the wiring to do this - one wire from the Cold Start Injector to your button and then a short wire from the other side of the button to any screw into metal under the dash and you are good to go. I hope that clarifies what I meant - let me know.
Best,
Gary
