Ok, I re-read the relevant sections in the Haynes manual - Craig is right, the throttle switch (which you don't have) is not connected to the cold start injector - accoridng to Haynes, it originally should have been connected to some solenoid which would increase the fuel pressure mechanically upstream of the regular K-jet fuel pressure regulator.
At any rate, I looked at the '76 diagram, and the only switches affecting the cold start valve are the thermo-time switch and the vacuum contact, both of which have to be closed for it to operate - I am guessing that you are right, Bruce, about the failure being the injector itself rather than either of those switches.
