PS I forgot to address your ignition questions. Effect of timing adjustment on CO is nil. Pertronix is good. With Pertronix your spark quality and ignition timing will not change as they do over time with points. It will not by itself make a "better" spark than properly set points in good condition, but will not go out of whack until it fails completely. Carry a spare distributor with points, or at least a set of points and condensor, to keep you going if the Pertronix goes south.
