You are correct when you note that your 9-3 Saab is lacking in some design details compared to other marques. It is a 8+ year old design and is showing its age a bit. Even though Saab has always been a bit more utilitarian than say BMW, hopefully the next generation of 9-3 will be more current in its design.
That said, the problems you list are the dealers fault. Every car is to be carefully prepared by the dealer and according to Saabs own dealer preparation manual that would include aiming the windshield washers, aligning the steering, checking the brakes and alignment, and road testing the car. I sympathize because my 1998 900SET 5-door had similar problems. Some of the items I got the dealer to fix and several I had to fix myself. I sugguest you write a letter and phine the owner of the dealership expressing your frustration. Also notify send a copy to Saab USA. In my case, the letters did not get my car fixed, but at least the incompetent dealer no longer sells Saabs.
I choose to keep driving a Saab because of the unque blend of performance and practicality. I use my car for freeway cruising, forest road excursions, winter ski trips, and summer hiking trips into the southwest desert. No other vehicle has given me the combination of comfort, performance, and sure footed traction in 12" snow or 12" dust that my Saab has. My last Saab, a 1984 900T 3-door, was wonderful for 242,000 miles until it was totaled by a drunk in a 4x4. I plan to keep this Saab for as long. Of course, I also keep a 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider for top down fun. :)
