I'd chalk this up as a fluke... From your description it sounds like something as simple as a hose clamp let go and sprayed coolant (aka steam) all over. Since this car is brand new (how many miles?) it had not been "tested" on the road yet. It's probably safe to assume that this is not a regular occurance.
In a similar experience, there was a brand new 9-3 Viggen at the Colorado Saab convention in '99 that blew an intake hose. The guy who drove it was kind of a jerk about the whole thing, thinking that this car was junk (he prefers the older Saabs). The fact is that a $2 hose clamp was not fully tightened down and blew off with the high pressure that the Viggen puts out. Simply tightening it back up solved the problem. Bitching over.
