glued to the outside top edge of the driver's side car mirror gives more coverage without removing that vertical band of visability that is on the passenger's side car mirror. I don't know about you folks but years (decades) of driving have conditioned my eye-brain interface to expect a mirror to fully live up to its main design. For example the reflection in the usually flat driver's side mirror is processed by my brain as 'real' whereas the reflection in the passenger's side mirror (on most cars this is slightly convex - Objects in mirror are closer that they appear is immediately processed differently and I understand that the apparent distance is misleading. When trying to quickly process the reflection in the passenger's side (aspherical) mirror on my 1999 9-3 the difference in coverage confuses, for an instant, and requires a bit more time to process. I expect it is for reasons including this, that aspherical mirrors are not permitted for the driver's side. The small convex mirror does not cause this problem.

As an aside, most folks do not have their outside mirrors properly adjusted in the first place. If you can see any of the side of your car in your outside mirrors you are giving up a lot of 'blind spot' mirror space! The inside mirror covers a wide swath and if properly adjusted the outside mirrors continue this coverage. Try having your outside mirrors set to have coverage that just about includes part of the side of the car (but not quite) for a week or so and soon you will stop taking your eyes off the road to do those shoulder checks that I believe cause more accidents than they prevent - ever shoulder check to see if you can pull in only to look forward and realize the car in front has slowed - be honest, you know you have. Ask any professional driver if they "shoulder check" and see the reaction!
