I also noticed the hole at the bottom. I really don't know what that's good for, considering the mirrors are held in place with plastic tabs. THe hole is too small to get a screwdriver into. As for removing, I used a flat screwdriver to pry torward the center of the glass. If you pull from the edge of the glass, I'm afraid the glass might separate from the plastic. Ask classic 900 guys how common that is. Of course, it's no problem if you don't plan on saving the original mirror. To install, just connect heater wires and press/snap into place applying force at the center of the glass.
