I have a '98 5-door (but the back seat is the same or similar dimension as a convert.? not 100% sure) and 10-month old twins. My car seats are the biggest on the market (Britax Wizard), according to my wife. They are definitely a tight fit in their current rear-facing mode. Once the kids are old enough to face forward they might be a bit better. Anyway, my point is that there isn't a ton of room in the back if you have a particularly large car seat -- definitely try a test-fit before you buy if you can. It also doesn't help that I'm tall enough to keep the driver seat almost all the way back under normal conditions. I have to move it up to leave enough room for the seat.
