'99 9-3 fails to accelerate with no obvious cause Posted by rancor [Email] (#1529) [Profile/Gallery] (more from rancor) on Mon, 28 Apr 2014 18:05:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After an uneventful drive the previous day, my 9-3 will no longer accelerate above 10mph/coast in any gear. The clutch engages high, feels smooth while engaging and disengaging, and doesn't make any untoward noises. There's no popping, clunking or other noises while going around corners, the car tracks smoothly to the left or right, and the passenger side axle nut is tight. The car just revs up and doesn't go anywhere.
Going to put the car up later this week to inspect the drivetrain, but I'm very confused by the lack of symptoms, so any thoughts would be welcome.
ETA: I got a chance to put the front wheels up and slip tested, both wheels counter-rotated appropriately and the wheels don't move in first with the slightest touch of the brake. So it's a worn clutch disk after all. I'd never heard of a clutch failing so silently or abruptly, but I guess you learn something new every day. I think the smell of burning clutch was masked by the smell of the serpentine belt, which started to go at the same time :)
