it sounds like you like the car but it's like buying an old house, there is always something to do. if you DIY like me you'll save $$$ on parts replacement like top components, engine mounts, suspension parts, etc. the sludge problem is at the bottom of the oil pan not so much at the top where the valve cover is. and that cover can leak on the passenger and driver side. when sludge builds up it blocks the suction screen and when the oil flow is reduced it ruins the engine. the oil pan is difficult to remove as you have the raise the engine a bit to get clearance. if the top doesn't work check the CF11 hydraulic fluid in the reservoir if it's topped off. does the pump motor run?make sure the trunk is clear. then check the microswitch on the 5th bow. there are 2 on the tonneau cover and 2 in the trunk. chances are the lines are leaking or the rams are also leaking. there are 3 rams, one is each side and one in the trunk. after you sort all these out then you can play with it by installing a steering brace rack, upgrade to a bigger DO88 intercooler, replace the lame air filter box with open air kit from taliaferro, replace with Forge BOV then tweak the ECU. Use silicone hoses for all vacuum lines. If the clutch engages low maybe it's original and may need replacement. Offer 3K or less, then do ALL fluid changes including the tranny, accessed by the LF wheel removed. If the high octane gas, DI cassette and plugs are good the Viggen should scream and burn rubber on second gear, at least. You can spend a lot of time with this car but it's all fun. Good luck and let's see you grinning.
