Nothing against a wagon in particular, and I'll be happy if Saab gives us a true "sport-wagon". The 9-5 is a good attempt, but the styling isn't quite there for me.
The best design, in my opinion, is the original 9000 hatch. The advantage that car had was in rear visibility. The rear window was effectively wrap-around, with only small obstructions to visibility. That meant that visibility was as good as a sedan, but carrying capacity was much better. The disadvantage to a wagon is that you have a much smaller field of view out the back. Unfortunately, Saab didn't keep this feature in later 9000s and never used it in the 900 or 9-3 (although the four-door hatch 900 did have those funky-looking rear side windows). The 9-2 looks like it has it from the outside, but if you sit in an Impreza wagon, there's actually a lot of stuff inside that rear window that blocks your view. Ah, to have an '86 9000 again...
