Not that I don't like them, but the 9-5 wagons are very very expensive cars (beauty and performance often come at price...). Even used, its tough to find one with low miles (less than 35-40K miles) under say $22-$25K. In my opinion, that is a lot of money to spend on a used car (not that I wouldn't if I had it though - maybe in a year or two after grad school!). New, they are in the high $30K range, which is way beyond what a lot of people can afford or are willing to spend on a car.
For me, the 900 and 9-3 hatchbacks are the perfect compromise between performance, style, price, and size/utility/hauling capacity. And for a used car, they have to be one of the best values out there. (New they are still kinda pricey for a young up-and-comer like me.)
Suggestion to GM and Saab: I, and maybe others, would certainly drive a 9-3 wagon. Or, as others have suggested, how about a lower priced version of a 9-3 to compete with the Jetta crowd? Maybe this speaks to the issue of Saab needing more models to draw a broader consumer base. Now i'm rambling...
