I just arrived in Shenyang and my slick US$50/night 5-star room has high speed internet. Gotta love it.
Thanks for the tips you all provided a week or so ago. This trip shall prove interesting. I'll be at a BMW & Brilliance Automotive Joint Venture looking to automate assembly of the 3 and 5-series here.
SAAB content: I doubt I'll see any, but I saw an advert in a Chinese paper for the 9-5. I flipped through some auto mags in the Beijing airport and they have a tabular list of what companies offer here, and the 9-3 is not on it. Only the 9-5. But it's the 2.3L Turbo. I don't know what other powertrains are offered globally, but the Turbo seems higher end to me. Doesn't SAAB do Diesel, and normally aspirated in markets outside the US? I wonder when they got rid of carburetors. Probably in the C900/99/90 era.
The goofy cars I've seen in my short time here are the BMW 730 (isn't 745 minimum in USA?) and Passat 1.8T (isn't that a Jetta/Golf powertrain?). There's a Benzo S600 V12 parked at my hotel. I wonder who has that here. Talk about a spendy ride.
