After a while you will get use to the traffic rules:
1) If it’s paved you can drive or park on it.
2) The lines on the road have no meaning.
3) The right of way does not apply.
4) Don’t hit the official looking guy standing in the middle of the intersection.
FYI, you couldn’t rent a car if you wanted to. I do not think any car rental companies exist.
I had the same feeling about the number of workers it took to accomplish something. The one image I brought back with me was the image of a guy filling in a pothole. He was in the center of the busy intersection with a cone in front of him and a wheelbarrow behind him and shoveling cold fill into a hole. I would not call that a safe working environment, but he probably felt pretty lucky for having that cone. Another thing you will notice is the lack of eye, and ear protection inside some of the manufacturing shops.
How’s the atmosphere? Hazy? Does the air feel gritty or polluted?
