.......about the job market. I wouldn't dream of relocating back there unless I had the job in place first. It's pretty funny to read the words "Northeast Kingdom" in print. Very few people in the world know what that means. The commute from Hinesburg (where I lived for a while) to Burlington was closer to 20-25 minutes and there are several bordering towns of similar distance that offer very affordable housing. Having lived in the Boston/Providence area for a while I'm used to a 30-60 minute commute just to get 20 miles. Up there I would relish a 30 minute wind down on a two-lane road after work.
And yes, Burlington IS a melting pot of left-over college students, liberal thinkers, relocated "pursuing the country living dream" types and every variety of redneck you can imagine. I took for granted the diversity of culture there and find I miss it now. Not to say there isn't diversity here, but it's different. I visit up there several times a year and am always amazed when I get waved through a four-way intersection instead of getting cut off by some jerk in a bling-bling SUV. Just a more peaceful exsistence.
Also, as mentioned, super Saab friendly.
