nope, I simply just loved reading & writing so it seemed natural- had minors in Psychology, Philosophy & almost a minor in Business Law-
My parents were older when I was born (45&50) and were generally lax on pushing me toward the "corporate success-ladder" clone-factory since they themselves were happily retired by the time I was 12; now that they are dearly departed (and greatly missed) I just feel more free to roam, I guess.
I have an excellent work ethic in terms of the quality of job I do (at least I think)-but I don't particularly care for b/s so when I tried grad school in MD at a larger University I hated it- at that time it was mostly all politcs & a5 kissing.
I was definitely spoiled by a small undergrad liberal arts University where full professors taught every class from Freshman Comp on up... my junior & senior year the class sizes for advanced courses were anywhere from 4-10 students. I temp'ed around during & after college- ended up working for a Tech/Telecom company & enjoyed the crispness of the tech world. As a generalist (someone who knows a little bit about a lot of things), the lessons I learned in college have definitely helped me adjust my focus faster than many colleagues who seem to be caught in one (very often negative/fearful) perspective. Just my 2-cents
