Using SIPS as the exterior walls on a Post and Beam framed home. He bought the oak logs from the mill as squared only, and did all his own notching, pegging, and field erection. Split one thumb open like a grape when he dropped a 20-ft long oak 8x8 beam on it too. Ouch!
His current home is actually the second one he designed and built in this fashion. He bought the SIPS from a local supplier (West Michigan) with T-111 siding on the exterior and dry-wall on the interior surface. I believe they have a 6-inch thick foam core.
He is actually in advertising (not construction), but with a penchant for building anything. He bulds his own spiral staircases (from scratch - not a kit!), and builds his own telescopes using lenses and mirrors he grinds and polishes himself. I am still trying to talk him into buying a Saab, surrently drives Subarus. The link is to his company, he loves to share info about self-built post and beam homes.
