Driving a few miles on a dirt road once in a while is hardly off roading, with all due respect to you. You are probably in the 5pc of SUV owners who even gets their SUV dirty and I think that was the point I was trying to make. R&T magazine did a test on the Porsche Cayenne in a true off-road situation and the darn thing had to be rescued by a farmers tractor. The ONLY SUV that I would say has true off-road capability is a Range Rover and I sure as hell wouldnt be driving a USD70000 car into three feet of water. Lets face it, 99pc of people who buy an SUV dont really need it but then again we could say the same thing about the drop-dead gorgeous Lambo Gallardo I saw a week ago while I was in the UK - I have never seen a car turn so many heads.
