Plan on extra time (1-2 month) and do it right.

We were lucky enough to have an extra appartment with a kitchen so that made a ton of difference.

You WILL find surprises when the walls are opened up. Are you putting in new electric too?
I ripped out all the conduits and had 5 new circuits installed.

We had Home depot helping us with the plan for the kitchen cabinets but they turned out to be too expensive so we went with a cabinet maker that custom made everything for half the price. $6000.00 for 17 cabinets in different sizes and made of Hickory.

We used granit (buddy price $3000.00) and the MOST important thing after installation is to seal the surface. The installer used a "cheese" product and the first baking I did I had huge blotches of grease stains on it. Luckily I manage to extract the grease stains and used a more expensive product by StoneTech professional called Bulletproof, $70.00 a quart. That product is killer!

I also learned that granit is VERY cold and bread don't really rise that good, so from now on I use a sheet of plywood between as insulation.

Highlites of the remodel was to go with the cabinet maker to the lumber yard and pick out the boards one by one, or when me and my wife went to the granit yard and walked up and down the hall looking at slabs, using a measuring tape to make sure they were big enough.

Most important!
My wife is very happy with the kitchen and still mention that after 5 years.
