All the utly old counters and cabinets are out, the closet that served as a poorly-configured pantry is gone, and we're ready to put the new underlayment in for the new floor. The refrigerator and microwave are in the living room, so we got the ol' camping out in the house thing going. Not to mention 4-1/2 dozen boxes of kitchen stuff stacked throughout the house with labels like: "Glassware", "Odd Glassware", "Weird Glassware", "Wine Glasses", "More Wine Glasses", "Still More Wine Glasses", and "Dang, where did all these wine glasses come from?" No wonder we didn't have any storage. After this, I may just go for the paper bag kind of wine or the stuff that comes in a box with a spigot.
Our neighbors must think that we came out of the hills. There are cabinets and trash on the lawn to one side of the driveway. Tomorrow, it'll all be in a 15 yard rolloff. At least the dead SAAB which resided in the driveway for a few years has been gone for a while.
We're figuring on around $18k for the whole project, with a lot of sweat equity being rolled in. ($18k!!! I must be out of my mind.) All the measurements have been taken a few times and everything will fit well. As much as I would have loved real, elegant hardwood cabinets, we're going with well-built white ones. Man, what a markup there is on these things!
I'd love tile or granite squares for the floor, but it looks like we're going with a Pergo-type floor. Bamboo looked good, but the joists are running the wrong way to install it in the direction we wanted.
I took some pics of the wreckage and when I figure out how to download them from the camera, I'll post some of them.
Thanks again, all.
