Jae-
Spent four yrs. in Austin, lived in San Jose for a summer (internship at IBM). When it comes between Austin and bay area, there IS NO QUESTION. Austin has got to be one of the greatest places to live in the country. Words that come to mind are cheap, great culture, greater people, cheap, great quality of life, great food (you should taste how they do TexMex here in Boston where I am now...YUK!!), great weather (summer can be harsh, but you'll adjust like I did), cheap, great place to raise a family, good opportunity, great schools (nothing beats the price of a UT education...also great public schools) and cheap. Traffic? If you can afford a two bedroom/1 bath house in Sunnyvale I CAN ASSURE you can find BIGGER place in a great neighborhood/community where traffic is not an issue. Crime? Non-issue. Night-life? The best. It's the live music capital of the world. (God I miss Emo's). Not to mention SXSW for film and music every year. Cost of living? Did I mention cheap? Don't get me wrong...I think SanFran rocks, but as you know, it's simply an impractical place to live. And obviously the bay area has good opportunity, but housing is out of control. And if you are living OUTSIDE of Ausin (Round Rock, for example), we're talking real estate that's HALF as much as the bay area. Austin is the only way to go. Can't stress it enough...
