Bicycling increases my "relative" MPG

Last week was Bike Week (& Bike To Work Day) here along the Front Range of Colorado (Eastern slope of the Rockies), & I was able to bike 110 of the usual 320 miles I travel to work each week. Figuring I get around 30 mpg (the 8v '85 is giving me about 29 mpg, while the 16v '90 is giving me about 33 mpg), it requires 10.7 gallons of gas to drive the entire week. When I added in the bike last week, it only took 7 gallons! (210 miles of driving at 30 mpg.) Since I traveled the same distance using less gas, my "relative" mpg went up to 45.7! Woo-hoo!
But last week was a little more than what I normally do. My usual routine is to bike only a few days for part of the way, making it manageable. Instead of driving the entire 32 miles to work, I only drive 21 miles (to a good parking spot), then pull my bike out of the 900's hatch & ride the remainder. It only adds 1/2 hour each way, turning a 45 minute commute into an hour & 15 minutes. I feel way better (both physically & mentally), & I don't have to spend additional time or money going to a gym (which is not something I'd ever do anyway). I try to do this at least twice a week in good weather, & my goal (throughout the summer) is four times a week. So, figgering three times a week, I'll use about 8.5 gallons for the same 320 mile commute. That'll give me a relative increase to 37.8 mpg. Not as good as last week, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
