Done CO > CT or CT > CO many times...
Starting a road trip at night for me never worked out...I always found the closer to the beginning of the day I could start the longer I could go. Maybe it's something about the dark and relating it with sleep, but that's all I felt like doing if I started late in the day.
I've averaged that trip usually around 28-30 hours each way, 1880 miles, (previous to getting my `03 9-5 Aero...last trip was 22.5 hours...WOO!).
But, you seem to be starting at a difficult time...2:30. I'd say try to pay close attention to rush hour traffic in major cities, it's better to pull over and get some rest, a cup of coffee or whatnot and spend that time wisely, rather than not covering much ground stuck in traffic for who know's how long. Also, bring a toothbrush as it helps keep you stay awake by just dry brushing your teeth. Think it's a combination of the actual activity and they say the stimulation of your gums keeps you awake...who knows, also something to do. Books on tape always bored me and made me tired, had much more success with music. Bring a LOT of cd's...many more than your changer can handle because you may just not be in the mood for one of those six, or just get sick of them because 1200 miles takes a lot of time.
Obvious things...oil, other fluids, tires - wear, pressure, alignment, balance...lights, etc. Make sure it's running smooth to, even a quick plug change or basic DIY tuneup if needed will make for a much smoother ride and with today's gas prices, help a bit econmically also.
If you have a cell...keep the wife updated every once in a while as to where you're at on the road to ease her mind a bit.
But for the most part, have fun! Not sure exactally where you're driving to, but there's beautiful country out there and a great time to see it. Even if you don't have time to stop, enjoy what you can. Kick back, crank some music, enjoy driving your SAAB as it's going to be a comfy ride.
Good luck!
