I learned a great tip from a Cannonball racer to avoid stone chips that are inevitable when traveling in such a low car on a high speed highway adventure.
Before you leave, spend a 30 minutes and tape up the front bumper, hood line, rocker panels, etc. with removable painters tape (3M Blue Masking Tape). This shouldn't take very long and will definitely help keep your paint look cherry. Not to mention you won't have to worry about cleaning all the splattered bugs off.
From my personal experience I have had very good luck shipping cars. I've never payed more than $500 for a cross country trip. Take a look at movecars.com. I found that quotes will very form $400-2500, depending on if they are already going your way with a less than full load of cars. It may take a while to get 10-15 quotes, but the time spend will save you a lot.
