I've done about 1000 miles in a day, solo, Houston to Chattanooga, about 18 hours including stops for food, coffee, fuel, bio breaks, back in the days of the 55 mph limit., so 1200 over a day and half is not too bad. Have driven across US twice, half way several times. Your departure time makes it less than ideal but...

Depending on how tired you are, go from 2:30 to maybe 10 or 11 at night. Get some sleep. You should be able to average 65 or so. Just go with the flow of traffic--your car is a bit of a cop magnet--so you don't want to stand out. Get a decent sleep, hit the road early in the AM. Eat breakfast. Stop every few hours for food, fuel, etc. On at least one one of your stops on your "long day" make the effort to do some walking around or exercising as it really loosens you up.

CDs are great but get to be background noise after a while. I'm a fan of books on tape/CD, altho not everyone likes them. I find novels are best, but others like business or self-help books. I usually do a mix of music, books, NPR and no audio at all. Check in with friends on your cell. Stop and take pictures. Make it an adventure.

Enjoy the ride. A long road run can be very pleasing and relaxing. I do a 6-7 hour run to western NY several times a year and look forward to it every time, often wishing it was longer.

"Took a bead on those northern plains and just rolled that power on"--Bob Seeger

Have fun, be safe, tell us all about it.

Noel
