Long story short, I've been from negative equity to zero debt to lots of debts (but positive equity as I've stocked up on C900 SPG's and C900 turbo convertibles :) ). Balance is the key. Right now, I'm way skewed to one end and wish that I'm more balanced.
But I realized couple of things. First, I get something that is classic and timeless. One of the reasons why I drive older Saabs. Car is a big expense and don't want to be updating every couple of years. Also at the same time, I don't want to be driving a boring Toyota bought new and keep driving for the next 15 years either. Same thing with golf clubs. I stick to used Pings and Callaways and don't worry about the 'new' trends. Second, I always try to 'live' two years behind on the technology items. Whatever model is latest and greatest today, I note that in my mind and get it two years later. So I'm still enjoying life, but living frugally.
