I have done a bit of video editing on a PC platform and the results are not great. I've captured MiniDV and analog camcorder to disc, then edited, added titles, and such, and rendered to DVD.
The hardware is P4/2.4, 512mb RAM, lots of disc, Win2k, Pinnacle editing software, Pioneer DVD burner, Pinnacle AV/DV capture card, powerful ATI graphics.
The software is good, very easy to use, but very slow. I used Ulead's that came with the burner, faster, but I was not impressed with features, plus it crashed mucho. A pain to use.
Performance was not good. Capture is real time. Then you need time to separate the video into scenes, then editing, and rendering to a DVD image (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS). The last part takes easily 5-6 hours for a 2 hour tape. I understand Ulead is faster, but as I said, I did not like it.
The big issues are disc space, and software used for editing or rendering. If the Mac has better answers there, then go for it.
