Park City is pretty hoppin' & it's not hard to have a good time in downtown SLC, either. Now, Provo, on the other hand... ;-)
I don't recommend Alta to many people, and I lived there for two winters (yes, I can't lie, I had many, many epic days :-). For recreational, intermediate-level skiers who want more for their $$ than good groomers (basically, what you get at Alta is super-crowded Sugarloaf & some terrain off equally-jammed Germ), there are much better alternatives. Alta is a niche resort; most of the skiing public wants a broader experience.
