It's not because we get a lot of snow or ice, as you know. Many years there's none, and years when there is some you usually can just stay home for a few days and that's it for the year. But there's not a lot of public transportation in the 'burbs! I'd have to drive several miles on ice covered hilly roads to even get to where public transportation may travel once or twice a day! Even at my work place down in Kent there's no public transportation save for the Sounder train. Now I'll admit that is great, but you still have to get to and from the train station on each end (2-7 miles in my case), and it costs considerably more than gas for my Saab. But other than that... :)
I wish they'd hurry up and start selling those flying cars! In the meantime, based mostly on all the comments here, think I'll get the Nokian WR's once my NRW's wear out. 50k from ANY tire is a good deal for my 9000, much less one that actually performs excellently on both snow and bare roads. And I'm lazy, so I don't even like spending the hour or so it takes me to swap the wheels on my car twice a year.
