I bought my wife's diamond from an Antique/Estate shop. The diamond was sold according to its quality (clarity, color, size, etc.) and not marked very much at all. Then I had the ring made. It cost me $1400 CDN total for a ring that is valued at close to $10,000 CDN. Granted the owner of the shop was my wife's Aunt, but she was not big on giving deals. To a complete stranger the price might have been closer to $2000 CDN. Still a hell of a good deal.

I have since talked to other people who have bought the same way and they all feel they have received good value for their money.
