I just purchased a ring for my fiancee last November. I think you'll find that a 1 Ct. ring, at the clarity you are looking for, will be hard to find at that price range for an ideal cut, not to mention a good color rating. Is your girlfriend hung up on the 1 Ct. mark? Many women are, that's why there is a big jump up in price once you start dealing with stones 1 ct. and above. Also, when you go to look at stones you will see that clarity really is of little concern, save for bragging rights. SI2 and above are considered "eye clean", but you can see inclusions with the naked eye on an SI2 if you know where to look and get very very close. The color is very important, especially if you go with a platinum or white gold setting. The cut is very important as well. I used http://www.bluenile.com as a guide for prices. They will be cheaper than a local, privately owned jeweler (where I bought the ring), but at least you know what to expect. Good luck.
