You need to understand what the trade offs are between the various conditions. I found that my eye could see the difference between 2-3 color grades, and between high/low cuts, but couldn't see much between between the upper clarity grades. I ended up going with a D color, but Vs2 clarity. My wifes' jewelry loving sister couldn't believe my wife got a "D" stone. :) Blue Nile is great, but you might want to work with a local jeweler to make sure you get the setting just right. I'd advise getting a stone with the cert. # laser etched on the girdle, so you know that you got what you paid for. I bought my wife's stone from BLue NIle and would highly recommend them.
Make sure you buy the ring for her, not for you.
Going with 'two months salary' is silly, IMHO. Choose what you want to spend, not what a slogan says. Spend enough to make it significant, but not so much that it puts you in a bind financially. Also don't spend so much that someone would take her finger off for the ring. ALSO, don't borrow money to buy the ring! You'll have enough other expenses with the wedding, honeymoon and such to start that process in debt. Just my .02.
