I've been playing with a friend's Canon 20D for the last week or so and I'm convinced to start saving for a couple months and upgrade from my old SLR (Canon F-1) and go digital for everything except B&W. I think the 20D is more of a competitor for the D70 than the digital Rebels, which seem a little cheap (too much plastic!) to me. The D70 is priced midway between the two Canon models, but the 20D has an extra 2 megapixels (6.1 vs 8.2), produces better images (per the reviews I've read) and has a metal body.

In all fairness, I've never shot with the D70, but I'm so impressed with the 20D that the extra $300 or so is worth it for such a big purchase (and I'll only have to wait another month...).

The Canon 350D may be a worthy competitor to the D70, and I've got a couple months before I'm ready to buy so I'm waiting to hear some feedback on the 350D and hopefully I'll be able to find a loaner to play with...
