The oft-repeated claim that Saab gets stupendous mileage out of it's turbo 4s compared to many V6s just isn't really true anymore. For comparison purposes, here's a 9-5 Aero and some other models specs, followed by the 9-5's HP % difference & combined mileage difference.
(with stick shift where available)
9-5 Aero - 250 hp, 22/30
TL - 270 hp, 20/29 -7.4%, +6.1%
G35 - 298 hp, 19/26 -16.1%, +15.6%
Avalon - 280 hp, 22/31 -10.7%, -3.8%
Maxima - 265 hp, 20/29 -5.6%, +6.1%
Accord - 240 hp, 20/30 +4.2%, +4.0%
Yes, the Aero has lots of nice turbo torque. I enjoy mine greatly. But I didn't buy it because it's mileage is better than competitors.
It is funny when people talk like they're eco-crusaders for buying a 9-5 instead of a G35 or similar.
