I also purchased a little over a year ago and managed to get a fixer upper in Norwalk, CT in an ok area. I have many co-workers who have been priced out of the market. They end up renting or moving up the coast. The value of my house has gone up over 30% in the past year and with rates at 5% how could anyone not buy. I feel bad for people who are looking for their 1st home because you can't save money as fast as the prices are rising. I pay about 35% of my income to my mortgage and still manage to buy a few things, but most of money goes to fixing up the house so I can resell in a year and purchase a bigger house. I couldn't imagine if I was looking now. I would probably settle for a condo but, having a house is so much nicer and no common charges.
