First of all, Sometimes I wish I had gotten a newer road bike, because all of Klein's roadies now have carbon seat stays...but I'm young, and the alluminum's stiffness isn't bad, in my oppinion. Someday I'd like to get a Q-Pro Carbon w/ Ultegra or Dura-ace...but that'll be a while.
As for build quality: Yes, my Quantum is after the Trek takeover (I also had an early '90's Klein MTB that was stolen, so I've seen a few Kleins in my day.) My bike, however, was built in Chehallis, WA, and not in Wisconsin, where Klein production moved in 2004 (I think). Bottom line, I see no difference in build quality between my Attitude and my Quantum...I judge this on weld smoothness (Is there anything quite like a Klein Weld?), interior cable-routing and it's exocution, as well as the paint finish...my Quantum's paint looks like $1,000,000. My impression of the brand new Attitudes that I've seen in shops recently is that the paint finish isn't as brilliant, and that the welds, while prettier than just about anything out there, are not the same as on my two bikes.
I think that Trek Bought Klein in 1995, and a few Kleins of the late '90's were truly Treks with different decals...(Saab 9-2X?? Anyone?) I think that MTB was called a Klein Pulse...You could see that the welds were traditional (Messy-looking, compared to Klein's weld process) bulky welds, but that the Klein Adroit and Attitude remained true to the Klein manufacturing process. Now, all Klein frames are unique in geometry and materials/methods. I've heard that the paint facilities in Wisconsin are not as high-tech as what Klein had been using in WA, so maybe that's the only current shortcomming in the Klein Line-up.
In short, I'll buy another Klein when the time comes.
