That said, is the town a well established town or an up and coming place (as in most desirable to live category) ? If it is well established, are there any development nearby as that would further increase road traffic ? I think you know where I'm going with this.
I don't like houses that are close to main roads or close to a highway or worst behind an interstate, even with the so called sound barrier. The traffic is going to increase in time, be it in a year, 5 years, or ten years, unless there is an alternative road to take traffic away. It's going to become harder to sell later.
Go visit the area at *NIGHT* and at different days of the week including weekends and see if the traffic and noise level outside the house bothers you. If you plan to use your outdoor space, then more reason to know what you are getting into, trucks, emergency vehicles, cars with stereo blasting, winter tires (if applicable)....
